Drayton Valley RCMP report: May 21 – May 28

May 21

9:33 am – Drayton Valley – 51 Avenue – 911 hang up, static on line. Member attended, no emergency.

10:15 am – Drayton Valley – 45 Avenue – Complainant calling to report a break and enter to their garage. A piece of the overhead door had been broken off. Stolen items include generator, lawnmower, various tools, sound system.

12:37 pm – Drayton Valley – 53 Avenue – 911 report of a female in distress. Members attended and spoke with female who was upset with how their partner was driving.

3:09 pm – Drayton Valley – 50 Street – Complainant reporting an assault. Complainant states that male spat in their face. Complainant was meeting with known male. Under investigation, charge pending.

7:11 pm – Drayton Valley – 45 Avenue – Complainant reporting their licence plate stolen.

7:41 pm – Drayton Valley – 51 Street – Complainant reporting a suspicious truck. Vehicle is a grey Dodge Ram with a chrome headache rack. Male driver. Male had gotten out of vehicle and walked up to the bushes, then returned to the truck. Male is going back and forth to bushes. Members attended and located vehicle and spoke with male who identified themselves and stated that they were waiting for a friend.

8:29 pm – Brazeau County – Hwy 22 – Member on patrol conducted a traffic stop. Driver charged with driving an uninsured and unregistered vehicle on the highway.

9:11 pm – Drayton Valley – Pleasant View Trailer Court – Alarm company reporting a dispute at residence. Members attended, parties separated.

11:51 pm – Drayton Valley – 49 Avenue – Complainant reporting suspicious activity in a red older Dodge Caravan. 2 – 3 people with flashlights looking around. Members attended, persons were in their own vehicle looking for something.

11:57 pm – Drayton Valley – 50 Street – Complainant reporting theft from vehicle. Known females broke into the complainant’s vehicle and stole some bags, a black Adidas backpack, and a blue galaxy print backpack, cash, jewelry. Members attended.

May 22

6:50 am – Drayton Valley – Mackenzie Avenue – Members called to a panic alarm from residence. Resident called to say it was a false alarm. Members attended to ensure all was ok.

8:59 am – Drayton Valley – 44 Street – Wallet stolen from a vehicle overnight. Suspect identified and returned the wallet.

11:30 am – Drayton Valley – Power Centre Blvd – Report of a hit and run that occurred sometime prior to May 9th.

1:11 pm – Drayton Valley – 54 Avenue – Police called to a disturbance at a residence. Members attended and helped mediate the situation, no criminal allegations made.

1:59 pm – Drayton Valley – 41A Avenue – Caller upset over receiving numerous scam calls trying to defraud him for money. Complainant had never provided any money or personal info. Advised of strategies when dealing with callers, including reporting to anti-fraud centre and blocking the numbers.

4:30 pm – Drayton Valley – 50 Avenue – Wallet left behind by a customer was turned over to police. Police contacted the owner who came and picked up the wallet.

4:32 pm – Drayton Valley – 49 Avenue – Report of a suspicious vehicle. Police attended, the vehicle was no longer there, but they are familiar with the vehicle which has appropriate documentation.

6:56 pm – Drayton Valley – 50 Street – Call of someone hurt at a hotel. Police attended and located 36-year-old Darryl HODGKINSON wanted out of both Drayton Valley and Strathcona County for numerous charges including: Flight from a Peace Officer, Possession of Stolen Property, Fail to Attend Court and several other fail to comply with conditions of release. A telephone hearing was held and HODGKINSON was remanded in custody for a bail hearing on May 25. Nobody was located injured at the location.

May 23

9:43 am – Drayton Valley – 43 Street – Attempted theft of a vehicle overnight. Window smashed, ignition punched and speaker stolen.

11:08 am – Drayton Valley – 46 Street – Theft of a blue 2013 BMW 335, Alberta plate CCX-5366, occurred overnight. An unlocked truck on the same property was entered, where keys were found for the BMW and the vehicle was stolen.

1:40 pm – Drayton Valley – 50 Avenue – Report of a stolen bicycle in the past couple days. A teal Schwinn bike was stolen from a residence. The bike is a retro style with black/white tires and rack on the back.

2:14 pm – Drayton Valley – 50 Street – Complaint of a female in distress. Members attended, the female had recently been released from cells and was suffering from paranoia.

3:06 pm – Drayton Valley – Ford – Police were called to assist with a couple who entered the lot to look at vehicles and then were locked in. Before police attended, an employee had been located and had let them out.

3:33 pm – Drayton Valley – 50 Street – Alarm at a business. Police attended, a construction crew was onsite and set off the alarm accidentally.

9:20 pm – Drayton Valley – 48A Avenue – Noise complaint, police attended and asked the resident to turn the music down. No further complaints received.

10:38 pm – Drayton Valley – 50 Avenue – Report of a cougar sighted in town. Police patrolled the area, no cougar was located, no further calls were received.

May 24

1:24 am – Drayton Valley – 62 Street – Complaint of a suspicious vehicle, possible attempted B&E. Complainant saw a suspicious vehicle pull up to a business, the passenger exited and walked towards the yard. When they saw the complainant they ran back to the truck and left. Police attended, the vehicle could not be located, no entry was gained.

7:38 am – Drayton Valley – 50 Street/50 Avenue – Jeep stolen while parked at a business with the keys left inside. The vehicle was recovered a short time later abandoned on a rural property.

7:58 am – Drayton Valley – 51 Avenue – Found notebook with strange writing in it was turned over to police.

11:23 am – Brazeau County – Hwy 39 – Report of erratic bikers. Approximately 30 motorcycles driving erratically, cutting in and out of traffic, last seen south on Hwy 22. Members from Drayton Valley, Breton and Rimbey attempted to locate the bikers without success.

3:12 pm – Drayton Valley – 56 Avenue – Attempted theft of bike outside a business. Police attended, the male owned the bike, no theft occurred.

3:57 pm – Brazeau County – 502 Twp – Report of two quad riders being threatened by a property owner.

5:40 pm – Brazeau County – Hwy 620 – Collision between a motorcycle and a deer. RCMP members along with Fire and EMS attended. The driver of the motorcycle was transported via STARS in serious but non-life threatening condition and the passenger was transported by ground ambulance to the hospital.

10:23 pm – Drayton Valley – Lions Park – Report of a loud party in the day-use area. Police attended, there was no loud music and no alcohol present.

10:58 pm – Drayton Valley – 40 Street – Complaint of a vehicle in the area, tires squealing and engines revving. The vehicles were not seen by the complainant. Members attended and patrolled the area and could hear no noise.

11:11 pm – Drayton Valley – 40 Street – Report of someone burning tires in a garage (unknown exact location). Police attended, patrols made in the area, no tire burners could be located.

May 25

5:40 am – Drayton Valley – Police were called to assist EMS with a medical-related call.

8:58 am – Drayton Valley – Police were called by a family member concerned about the wellbeing of the person from the previous call.

2:18 pm – Drayton Valley – 52 Street – Report of an abandoned vehicle on private property. Police attended and confirmed the vehicle was not stolen and attempted to call the last registered owner without success. The property owner was advised they could have the vehicle removed at their discretion.

4:22 pm – Drayton Valley – 50 Avenue – Complaint of a possible impaired driver in a company vehicle. Police spoke with a representative of the company and was able to track down the driver and confirmed they were not impaired.

7:45 pm – Parkland County – Twp 514 – Police called regarding 2 stolen vehicles located in the area. Two suspects fled the area on foot prior to police arrival. Drayton Valley members attended along with Evansburg RCMP members to secure the area to conduct a search. RCMP Air Services and RCMP Police Dog Services attended to search the area; however, no suspects were located. 2 stolen trucks were recovered, one which was stolen in 2017 from Drayton Valley and the other which was stolen about a week prior in Parkland County. Still under investigation.

7:48 pm – Drayton Valley – Madsen Avenue – Report of an erratic driver. Police followed up with the owner of the vehicle who denied driving erratically but was cautioned on their driving habits.

7:52 pm – Drayton Valley – 52 Avenue – Report of 3-4 people smoking inside the post office. When members attended, there was nobody present.

8:18 pm – Brazeau County – Rocky Rapids – Report of a suspicious person, possibly scoping out the place. They then made a purchase and exited the store. Police provided some crime prevention tips, but at this time no offence has taken place.

10:07 pm – Brazeau County – RR 73 – Residential duress alarm. Police attended and spoke with the homeowner and determined the alarm was false.

10:12 pm – Brazeau County – Country Style Trailer Court – Report of a disturbance. Police attended, no reports of violence, police helped mediate the situation.

11:27 pm – Brazeau County – RR 73 – Suspicious vehicle seen via security cameras. Members attended, the vehicle was no longer on scene and is waiting on a copy of the footage to try to identify any suspects.

May 26

12:42 am – Drayton Valley – 52 Avenue – Theft of a wallet and cellphone from a vehicle. Extensive patrols made in the area, suspects not located.

12:51 am – Brazeau County – Twp 491 – Found property on a lease site. There was no indication the owner reported any theft. The complainant was able to locate the owner through Facebook and return the property.

1:14 am – Drayton Valley – Report of a suspicious vehicle following the complainant around in a vehicle while she searched for Pokemon’s. The subject of complaint was the victim of the theft of wallet from earlier and was advised to stop following vehicles around.

5:56 am – Drayton Valley – 50 Street – Police called to check on staff at a hotel as they were trying to check-in and no staff were present. Staff arrived back at the front desk prior to police attendance.

7:14 am – Drayton Valley – Industrial Road – Police were called by EMS to assist with a medical call.

10:19 am – Brazeau County – Hwy 39 – Complainant reported an abandoned van off of Hwy 39. Member attended, not stolen, appeared to have been parked for sale.

10:55 am – Brazeau County – Hwy 22/Twp Rd 503 – Complainant attended to report a collision with a deer.

11:54 am – Drayton Valley – 55 Ave – Complainant reported a female sitting in a dark Kia car for 1-2 hours. Member responded but the vehicle had left.

12:42 pm – Brazeau County – Hwy 620 – Complainant attended to report collision with a deer.

12:43 pm – Drayton Valley – 51 St – Complainant reported 3 suspicious people riding bikes, one carrying an extra bike. Member attended and patrolled the area including known suspect locations, the persons were not located.

3:08 pm – Drayton Valley – 46 Ave – Member observed a male known to be a prohibited driver, driving a vehicle. The suspect was located and arrested later and released to appear in court at a later date.

5:50 pm – Drayton Valley – 50 St – Member assisted in mediating a neighbour dispute.

8:21 pm – Drayton Valley – 52 St – Complainant requested the removal of his sister from his apartment. Sister and boyfriend refusing to leave, sister had hit complainant on the head. Members attended and arrested the female who appeared high. She was held in cells overnight and released without charge as per the complainant’s wishes.

10:11 pm – Drayton Valley – Omniplex – Complainant reported stunting vehicles in the parking lot of the Omniplex. Member attended and spoke to several possible suspects and issued verbal warnings regarding offences related to vehicle equipment.

11:17 pm – Drayton Valley – 47 St – Complainant reported a suspicious vehicle in parking lot of seniors’ residence. Member attended, vehicle had left.

May 27

12:19 am – Drayton Valley – 50 St – Complainant reported a suspicious car in business parking lot. Member attended and located a known male sleeping while still holding drug paraphernalia. Suspect awoke and was arrested for possession. A search of the suspect and vehicle failed to locate any drugs. Suspect and driver sent on their way and advised they were not welcome at the location.

2:18 am – Brazeau County – Poplar Ridge – Complainant reported an argument with his girlfriend who then went to a friend’s residence nearby. Complainant requested a wellbeing check. Members attended, female was sleeping on the friends’ couch. No issues.

9:16 am – Drayton Valley – 53 Ave – Complainant reported ongoing argument with her boyfriend. Members attended, male had left. No offence occurred and the female was provided assistance and advice. Members were then called back as the male returned and argument continued. On arrival the suspect had again left. Member assisted the female with locating a women’s shelter.

9:32 am – Drayton Valley – Power Center Blvd – Complainant reported 4 suspicious people in business parking lot, including a female wearing provocative clothes falling all over and appearing to be high. One of the males was trying to assist her. A “scary-looking” male had entered the store and was cruising the aisles. Member attended but the suspects had left. Patrols of known hot spots failed to locate the persons described.

10:13 am – Brazeau County – RR73 – Complainant reported a suspicious male walking near the airport. Member attended and located the male, a local homeless male who is normally harmless. The male was walking to town.

11:08 am – Drayton Valley – Omniplex – Resident who lives near the Omniplex reported cars racing and tires squealing routinely, emanating from gatherings at the Omniplex parking lot. Complainant requested more patrols and enforcement. Police request that the younger drivers who are routinely complained about worry less about being “cool” and more about their neighbours.

11:21 am – Drayton Valley – Complainant reported having a deal to sell a car to a female and that now the deal was “going south” and so he had taken the insurance off of the car. Checks showed the car not been re-registered.

12:33 pm – Drayton Valley – Complainant reported lending his car to a female who was now refusing to return the car. Complainant then received a text from the suspect advising she had left the car parked roadside. Complainant going to pick up his car.

12:58 pm – Brazeau County – RR80 – Complainant reports that suspects are stripping copper wire at a location. Under investigation.

1:25 pm – Parkland County – Hwy 22/Twp Rd 512 – Complainant reported a male working on an older Nissan truck, right on the highway. Member attended but the male had apparently fixed the truck as he was no longer there.

5:42 pm – Drayton Valley – 43 Ave – Member attended a residence after reports of threats being uttered due to a parking dispute in a residential alley.

5:48 pm – Drayton Valley – Econorest – Complainant reported 5 or 6 unwanted persons; one using a garbage can as a urinal, others being verbally aggressive. Members attended and identified one suspect and determined the suspects were staying at the location. Complainant advised to bring up the issue with landlord.

7:08 pm – Drayton Valley – 55 Ave – Complainant reported walking past a residence about a week ago and being attacked by a dog. Complainant wasn’t injured but now fearful to walk past. As requested member spoke to the dog’s owner who was apologetic and taking actions to prevent a re-occurrence.

8:30 pm – Brazeau County – RR80/Twp Rd 491 – Complainant reported a suspicious male in a white F-150 at a lease site. Complainant had been told the suspect was cutting into an active well with a hacksaw. Members located the suspect near a lease site and found he was cutting a hockey stick with a hack saw. Suspect was directed to complete his Pinterest project elsewhere as he could be charged with trespassing.

May 28

12:38 am – Parkland County – Hwy 22 – Complainant reported an injured deer on the shoulder North of Drayton Valley. Member attended the area but was unable to locate the animal.

1:23 am – Drayton Valley – Omniplex – Complainant reported a female carrying a golf club had lit something on fire near the park area. The female appeared high and was yelling they were going to steal her golf clubs. Members patrolled the area including pathways but didn’t locate the wayward golfer or anything left on fire. Female identified from surveillance video, not located.
