Two more deaths as Alberta dips below 900 active cases

More than 85 per cent of all confirmed cases of COVID-19 in Alberta have now recovered.

The number of people who’d tested positive that are now symptom-free rose by 91 to 5,801 on Friday.

There were also 32 new cases confirmed since yesterday for a total of 6,800 since the pandemic began. The province also registered two new fatalities for a death toll of 134.

There are now 54 people in hospital, a decrease of five, and six in the ICU.

In Central Zone, which includes Red Deer, there are four active cases, down by one since Thursday; and there are no new cases, leaving the zone at 99.

Red Deer is even at two active and 35 recovered cases. Red Deer County’s numbers are also the same with just one active case.

Ponoka County’s lone active case from Thursday is now recovered. That municipality has had three cases.

To date, 209,412 Albertans have been tested, including 3,205 in the last day. There are 83 active cases in continuing care facilities, where 100 people have now died. Another 621 in those facilities have recovered.
