Red Deer Public Schools will receive $4.1 million as part of the Capital Maintenance and Renewal funding announced by the provincial government this week.

“This funding announcement is welcomed news,” says Board Chair Nicole Buchanan, in a news release. “These dollars are something that weren’t expected and will provide economic stimulus for our province and support people getting back to work in these challenging times. We have a number of projects that we’ll be able to tackle because of this additional funding, which will help ensure our buildings are safe and secure and ready to welcome back students when the time comes.”

District officials say the funding announcement will allow Red Deer Public to proceed with a number of initiatives including roofing projects, boiler replacements, a replacement of a building envelope and improved security in schools.

“There is never a shortage of projects and we have a number of them ready to go,” adds Della Ruston, Associate Superintendent, System Services. “In the coming days we will prioritize the projects in our District that we will proceed with and we very much look forward to getting these projects started immediately.”
