Savannah Mowat, a Grade 9 student at St. Gregory the Great Catholic School participated in the Optimist Club Oratorical Competition last month. This is a speaking competition open to all students under the age of 18.

Not only did she write her own speech and present it online to a panel of judges, she actually received first place for the optimist clubs in the area. As a result, she moved on to the provincial competition, where she placed fourth!

“We are so proud of Savannah and the courage it took to participate in this competition,” said Assistant Principal Angela Ward at St. Gregory the Great Catholic School.

“It is so important for us to recognize these students that go out of their way to push themselves into new situations. Savannah made her own decision to participate in this competition and did such a great job, even in the middle of such a trying time. She should be very proud of her accomplishment and I am really looking forward to watching what she will do in the future,” said Teacher Alanna Cellini at St. Gregory the Great Catholic School.
