Active COVID-19 cases in Alberta nearly down to 1,000

The number of people in hospital in Alberta because of COVID-19 continues to go down.

As of Tuesday, 61 people in the province are in hospital due to the virus, four fewer than Monday, including eight people in intensive care.

In total, 5,584 Albertans have now recovered from COVID-19, an increase of 65 from Monday, while there are 1,004 active cases.

No new COVID-19-related deaths were reported Tuesday, leaving the province’s total at 128.

Locally, the total number of cases in the Central zone remains 99, including 10 active, 88 recovered and one death.

In Red Deer, the number of COVID-19 cases remains 37, including two active and 35 recovered.

In the last 24 hours, Dr. Deena Hinshaw says 2,428 tests have been completed in Alberta, resulting in 33 new cases that bring the total number of COVID-19 cases in the province to 6,716.

Red Deer County 16 cases (2 active, 14 recovered)

Sylvan Lake 3 cases (3 recovered)

Clearwater County 2 cases (2 recovered)

Rocky Mountain House 1 case (1 recovered)

Lacombe County 3 cases (3 recovered)

Lacombe 2 cases (2 recovered)

Ponoka County 3 cases (1 active, 2 recovered)

County of Stettler 2 cases (2 recovered)

Mountain View County 9 cases (2 active, 7 recovered)

Health Minister Tyler Shandro announced funding of more than $14 million per month for facilities to cover enhanced staffing, costs of cleaning supplies and loss of accommodation revenue due to vacant beds and rent freezes.

He added the funding will be maintained “throughout all stages of Alberta`s relaunch, until the public health orders are lifted and the threat of COVID-19 has passed.”

More than 70 per cent of the COVID-19 deaths in Alberta have been in seniors’ facilities.
