One new case for Red Deer, hospitalizations continue decline

The province’s COVID-19 hospitalization rate crept lower on Sunday reaching just 71.

That’s four less than Saturday’s total and continues a downward trend that has now stretched to three days. May 8 and 9 marked the first two straight days with declines in hospitalizations since the pandemic began.

As of Sunday, 71 people are in hospital including 13 in ICU. That’s 19 fewer hospital admissions than on May 7.

ICU admissions have also dropped for five straight days, down from 20 on May 5.

The province is reporting 96 new cases of COVID-19, however, raising Alberta’s total to 6,253. There is one new death raising the number of fatalities to 117.

There is one new case in Red Deer, giving the city three active cases and 34 recoveries. Data from Alberta Health shows one active case in each the north, southwest and east portions of the city.

Central Zone has two new cases giving it 99, though just 17 are active.

Provincially, there are 1,747 active cases, a decrease of 90. Alberta Health says, 4,389 people have recovered.

South: 1,154 (470 active, 7 deaths)

North: 227 (31 active, 15 deaths)
