Crown seeks long-term offender status for Eckville man who admitted to child sex crimes

Crown prosecutors have received consent from Alberta’s deputy attorney general to pursue a long-term offender designation for an Eckville man who has admitted to committing sex crimes against young children.

Carolyn Ayre with the Specialized Prosecutions Branch in Calgary says the case returns to Red Deer provincial court on May 11, when it’s anticipated the now 36-year-old will confirm he has retained a new lawyer.

The man, whose name is under a publication ban, pleaded guilty last October to more than two dozen of the 80 counts against him.

Court heard that over the course of about a decade the man collected hundreds of photos and videos of himself sexually assaulting or molesting children between the ages of two and 10-years-old.
