Blackfalds extends facility closures due to ongoing pandemic

Apr 27, 2020 | 2:52 PM

Facility closures in the town of Blackfalds have been extended to May 31.

The Town says its top priority remains the health and safety of the public and its staff.

It also acknowledges that with nicer weather comes the natural tendency to want to get outdoors and into facilities. The Town asks that residents adhere to guidelines previously set out.

Facilities that remain closed include:

-Abbey Centre (Field House, Fitness Studios, Program Room, Child Minding, Border Paving Fitness Centre, Red Deer Kinsmen Indoor Play Space, Running Track, etc.)

-Blackfalds Public Library

-Civic Cultural Centre

-Multi-Plex Arena (Ag Room, Banquet Room, Dry Floor/Ice),

-Operations Centre

-Wadey Centre

-Community Centre (Main Hall and Multi-Purpose Room).

Additionally, as of April 23, all local events including Blackfalds Days, are cancelled until at least June 30. This also includes the Community Garage Sale. Canada Day plans are still under consideration and the Community Garage Sale could be rescheduled.

“We strongly advise against any garage sales or similar activity and ask that the community delay any planned yard and garage sales until the Province has lifted the restrictions on gatherings,” an update on the Town’s website states. “Yard and garage sales tend to draw large numbers of people and require cash transactions and touching of objects – all of which are the main cause of the COVID-19 spread.”
