"RECKLESS"

Ontario premier dubs protesters as “yahoos” after gathering Saturday

Apr 25, 2020 | 3:53 PM

Ontario Premier Doug Ford says anti-lockdown protesters who gathered at the provincial legislature today are “reckless” and “selfish.”

Ford was announcing new supports for front-line workers, and admonished the dozens of protesters grouped outside Queen’s Park in defiance of emergency orders.

He said the actions of the protesters could set health-care workers back by months.

Ontario announced a four-dollar-per-hour raise over the next four months for front-line workers who are helping fight COVID-19.

Workers will also receive a monthly bonus of $250 if they work more than 100 hours in a month.

Ford’s 95-year-old mother, who resides in a long-term care home, was announced to have tested positive for the coronavirus two days ago.

Ontario reported 48 deaths today from COVID-19 and 476 new cases.

This report was originally published on April 25, 2020 by The Canadian Press.
