Battle of the Rockies becomes latest cancelled event

One of the latest events to fall victim to restrictions put in place due to COVID-19 is the annual Battle of the Rockies, which is hosted by the Rocky Mountain Chuckwagon Association (RMCA).

The latest edition was scheduled for August 13-18, 2020 at Rocky Mountain House’s North Saskatchewan River Park.

The decision comes after Alberta’s chief medical officer of health, Dr. Deena Hinshaw, said Thursday that all summer festivals and events would not be allowed to go ahead.

Last year, it looked as if the RMCA would not hold future Battle of the Rockies events in Rocky. It was established in January, however, that it would go ahead in the west central Alberta town.

The RMCA says it remains hard at work planning to ensure the Battle of the Rockies comes “roaring back” for 2021.

On April 8, the Rocky Pro Rodeo announced that they would be cancelling their 2020 event. On Friday, Westerner Park in Red Deer announced that the 2020 edition of Westerner Days is also cancelled.
