Wolf Creek Public Schools appoints two new principals in Ponoka

Wolf Creek Public Schools (WCPS) has announced the appointments of new principals for two of its schools in Ponoka.

Mrs. Evie Van Scheik has been appointed as principal of Centennial Centre Patients’ School.

Van Scheik has been serving in the role of acting administrator at the for the past two years. She has more than 20 years of experience with Wolf Creek Public Schools as a classroom teacher, inclusion coach, assistant principal, and principal at Mecca Glen School, from 2007 to 2012.

“I am thrilled to be appointed as the new principal at Centennial Centre Patients’ School. I am looking forward to the great things we will continue to do as a team of educators, medical personnel, and therapists to build on the existing legacy of rehabilitative excellence for our clients,” said Van Scheik. “Centennial Centre Patients’ School is a unique and special educational institution, and I’m so honored to be part of the team.”

Van Scheik holds a Master of Education degree in Educational Leadership from the University of Calgary and a B.Ed from Canadian University College.

Mr. Nathan McEntee has been appointed as principal of Ponoka Elementary School (PES), where he has been serving as acting principal for the 2019/2020 school year. Prior to this, he served as an Assistant Principal at PES, Gr. 6 Teacher, Learning Coach and Technology Coach.

McEntee is currently pursuing his Master of Education degree in Educational Leadership from Concordia University-Portland. Additionally, he holds a B.Ed from the University of Alberta and a BSc. from the University of Lethbridge.

“I am excited and honoured to continue working with such an amazing group of dedicated staff here at Ponoka Elementary,” said McEntee. “I have been fortunate to be a part of PES for nine years now and know the strong parent and community support we have. This has been especially evident in the past three weeks. I am confident our school community will come out of this challenge stronger than ever and I am proud to be a part of it.”
