Three charged following violent Red Deer robbery

Apr 1, 2020 | 4:16 PM

Red Deer RCMP have charged three people and recovered stolen property following a violent robbery which occurred at a Fas Gas on Gaetz Avenue on Mar. 30.

At 3:30 a.m., Mounties responded to a complaint that a clerk was robbed by three males. Police say the clerk was physically attacked and treated on scene for minor injuries.

The suspects fled on foot and RCMP responded with police dog services. However, according to Mounties, a lengthy track by the dog did not lead to the capture of the suspects.

Later, on an unrelated call to service about suspicious activity, RCMP were able to link people in a residence to the earlier robbery. By 7:45 a.m., three males were arrested without incident.

Denver Deschamps, 19, Evan Elliot Deschamps, 24, and Eastin Louis, 23, are all facing robbery charges.

Following judicial interim release hearings, RCMP say Eastin Louis has been remanded to attend court on Apr. 3, Evan Deschamps was remanded to attend court on Jun. 19, and Denver Deschamps was released to attend court on Jun. 19.

Mounties say members were able to recover a large amount of the stolen property and the cash box.

“We encourage citizens to continue to report suspicious behaviour in this community,” says Sergeant Ian Ihme of Red Deer RCMP General Investigation Section, in a release. “If something doesn’t seem right, it probably isn’t. In this case, a citizen’s gut instinct led to swift arrests.”
