UPDATE: Telus reported at 10:59 a.m. that service has been restored across the province.

“Earlier today, we experienced a service outage in parts of Western Canada. affecting wireless services and some wireline customers,” says Doug Self with Telus public relations.

For the second time in as many weeks Telus Mobility customers across Alberta are experiencing service issues that may affect their ability to call 9-1-1.

“There is a widespread outage impacting Telus Mobility customers,” according to an Alberta Emergency Alert message issued at 9:56 a.m. Tuesday. “This may impact Telus Mobility customers’ ability to dial 9-1-1 in an emergency.”

Only Telus Mobility customers are affected. This does not affect landline service but the company says text, voice, data and voicemail services are affected.

The cause of the issue is undetermined at this time, Telus says on its website.

In the event of an emergency requiring 9-1-1 assistance from police, fire, or ambulance, use a landline to dial or proceed to your nearest fire, ambulance, or police station for assistance.

Telus Mobility customers experienced similar issues last Wednesday.
