No injuries caused by Deer Park house fire

A man suffered minor injuries Sunday afternoon after a fire at a home in Red Deer’s Deer Park neighbourhood.

The 9-1-1 call came in just after 1 p.m., according to Red Deer Emergency Services Deputy Chief Tyler Pelke.

“We had a report of an explosion at a single-family dwelling on Darling Crescent,” he shares. “When crews arrived, there was initially nothing showing, but we quickly discovered a fire in the basement.”

Crews knocked the flames down swiftly, Pelke adds.

The lone occupant got out of the house and was treated on scene for minor burns. There was no damage to neighbouring homes, but the home where the fire was located did sustain major damage.

“There were a few neighbours that poked their heads out to look, but they were all socially distancing,” Pelke also noted.

The exact cause of the fire, including what it was that exploded, remains under investigation.
