Local council meetings continue during COVID-19

Business continues for local elected officials despite the COVID-19 pandemic.

Lacombe city council meets today at 5 p.m. with the public invited to watch online through Youtube.

Following the recent declaration of a provincial state of public health emergency under the Public Health Act, all City of Lacombe facilities, including City Hall, will remain closed to the public until further notice.

In Sylvan Lake, town council meets tonight starting at 6 p.m. The meeting is open to the public; however town officials are asking residents to consider staying home.

“If you still intend on attending the meeting, please know we have taken precautionary measures to ‘prevent the spread’, and create distance between attendees; we do have a limit on how many we can safely accommodate,” the town says on its website.

A March 28 special meeting of council slated for a public hearing on the Sylvan Lake Intermunicipal Development Plan has been cancelled.

Innisfail town council meets tonight at 6 p.m. but the Innisfail Town Office is currently closed to the public.

Blackfalds town council meets Tuesday night starting at 7 p.m. with residents also invited to watch via Youtube.

The next regular meeting of Red Deer city council is slated for next Monday, March 30 with residents invited to watch live through the city’s website.
