Red Deer’s Adam Sandstrom earns AJHL scholarship
Adam Sandstrom had his junior career come to an early end due to the COVID-19 pandemic, but he still received some welcome news this week.
The Alberta Junior Hockey League (AJHL) announced the Red Deer native as one of two inaugural recipients of the Merit AJHL Scholarship, which comes with a $2,000 award.
The defenceman recorded 10 goals and 29 assists in 59 games this season with the Whitecourt Wolverines, for whom he was team captain.
“My team looks to me for guidance and leadership. I have adapted and learned how to motivate and lead a group of players towards a common goal and help everyone to stay focused on the tasks at hand,” Sandstrom said. “Being Captain has assisted me in establishing and building relationships with people of different backgrounds and perspectives.”
