To honour excellence in first-year teachers, the Board of Trustees have selected Nicole Adrian from St. Gregory the Great Catholic School in Blackfalds as Division finalist for the Alberta School Boards Association (ASBA) Edwin Parr Award.

“As an admin team, we nominated Nicole because she has done an amazing job of teaching her students and working with her teammates,” says St. Gregory the Great Principal, Ike Hanna, in a release. “Even though she is a first-year teacher she has demonstrated excellent teaching pedagogy and has been very reflective as she strives to continue to grow in her craft.”

“Our admin team was so excited and happy for Nicole after we found out she was selected as the Division finalist,” continues Hanna. “It is so awesome that she is being recognized as she has worked so hard this year and made so many connections with the students and staff of our school.”

Adrian was one of two teachers nominated for this award from across the division.

Brittany Glover from St. Matthew Catholic School in Rocky Mountain House was also nominated.

“We chose Nicole as our Edwin Parr Division Finalist because of her ability to form strong, meaningful connections with not only her Grade 2 students but also with her Grade 9 students,” adds Murray Hollman, vice chair of the Board of Trustees for Red Deer Catholic Regional Schools. “The ability to foster those connections is paramount to student success. It is important to recognize and celebrate our talented new teachers as they form the foundation for the future of our school division.”
