EDMONTON – Alberta has confirmed an additional 49-cases of COVID-19 in the province, taking the total to 195.

There are now 10 people hospitalized because of the illness and five of those are in intensive care. However, no new deaths have been reported.

In fact, Dr. Deena Hinshaw said Friday during her daily update that three people have reported recovering from confirmed COVID-19 cases.

The majority of the new confirmed cases are in Calgary and Edmonton area.

The total in the Central zone is now four cases, an increase of one. It’s the lowest current total of any zone in the province.

There remains just one confirmed case in Red Deer.

Hinshaw repeated a concern about those who attend a dental conference in Vancouver.

The conference specifically encompassed dentists from western Canada and is the common denominator in eleven community transmission cases in the province.

Hinshaw notes that there are likely more cases related to this conference and they are trying to track down the individuals.

Stronger restrictions are being put in place for visitors to long-term and seniors care facilities. Essential visitors will be restricted to a single individual who can be family, a friend, or a paid companion who provides care and companionship necessary for the well-being of the resident (physical and mental health) and/or a single designated visitor for a person who is dying, as long as only one visitor enters the facility at a time. Every visitor will undergo a health screening.
