Mobile home destroyed in Glendale fire

Mar 19, 2020 | 7:19 AM

Investigators are looking into the cause of a fire that destroyed a mobile home in Red Deer’s Glendale neigbourhood Tuesday night.

Red Deer Emergency Services (RDES) Assistant Deputy Chief Matt White says crews were called out at 6:10 p.m. to a residence at Mustang Acres along 59 Avenue and found a heavy amount of smoke billowing from the home when they arrived.

“They went inside to do an interior search to try and locate the fire,” says White. “It got fairly heavily involved, we had to pull crews out and go to defensive operations for a short period of time. Once they got things under control from a defensive perspective, they went back to offensive and cleared the trailer.”

White says there were no occupants inside the trailer at the time.

“Two residents showed up while our crews were on scene, they had been away and returned home,” adds White. “They were displaced and connected with the Red Cross to provide them assistance. We were on scene until just before 10 o’clock, so it was fairly extensive.”

Fortunately, White says the fire was contained to just the one residence.

“I would suggest though that the home is probably a total loss,” laments White. “Given the vintage of the unit and the amount of fire that was in there, I would say it has to be a total loss.”
