City using “enhanced cleaning” to ensure transit buses are safe for riders

Mar 17, 2020 | 9:11 AM

The City of Red Deer says it’s ensuring transit service rolls on as normal as possible in the wake of the COVID-19 pandemic.

As such, city officials say they are using “enhanced cleaning” efforts to ensure its transit buses areas clean as possible for Red Deerians.

“Transit is a backbone service that allows people to get to work and to get around,” Karen Mann, director of emergency management for The City of Red Deer, said Monday.

Red Deer Transit has cancelled school runs since all K-12 and post-secondary classes have been postponed by the province.

Any further changes, Mann says, will be shared with the community as they happen.

The City of Red Deer has closed all of its libraries, recreation and culture facilities to the public. Discussions are underway as to whether to also close other city facilities, such as City Hall, to the public.

Anyone with concerns or questions can visit reddeer.ca/covid-19 or call the non-emergency inquiries line at 403-342-8111. City officials are also sharing regular updates at 6 p.m. through its Facebook page.
