Red Deer Public Library shuts down branches due to coronavirus

Mar 16, 2020 | 9:55 AM

Effective immediately, all branches of the Red Deer Public Library are closed.

Libraries were not included in the City of Red Deer’s announcement on Sunday that rec and culture facilities are closing. The official explanation was that libraries are operated by a third-party.

Shelley Ross, RDPL CEO, says branches are closed until AHS recommendations support reopening.

Materials currently on loan can be returned to the exterior return book drops at the Downtown Branch. Book drops at the Timberlands and G.H. Dawe branches are not accessible.

Materials can be kept as loan periods are being extended until branches reopen. Overdue fines/fees are suspended at this time. Fines will not be issued. Holds are also suspended until reopening.

For customer support, patrons can still call 403-346-4576, or contact the library through RDPL’s social media platforms.

Customer support can also assist with pin numbers needed to access the full breadth of RDPL.org, which includes eBooks, eAudiobooks, eNewspapers, eMagazine, educational materials, language learning materials and more.
