A Pigeon Lake man is facing charges following the arrest of a suspect accused of stealing an RCMP “Bait Vehicle” in Ponoka last month.

Over the last month, Ponoka Mounties have utilized a “Bait Vehicle” within the Town of Ponoka.

On Feb. 26, police say the bait vehicle was placed on the east side of Ponoka and within six hours it was stolen.

After a short distance, RCMP say the vehicle became stuck in the ditch and was left abandoned. A suspect was later identified and arrested on Mar. 6.

Guy Roasting, 22, has been charged with theft of truck, mischief over $5000, four counts of fail to comply with a release order condition, and driving while prohibited.

Roasting has been released after a judicial hearing and will be appearing in Ponoka Provincial Court on Mar. 19.

Ponoka RCMP are warning would be criminals that if you steal a vehicle, or enter it to steal items, it may be a “Bait Vehicle” and you will be caught.

In conjunction with the RCMP Auto Theft Unit, Mounties say an initiative to use a “Bait Vehicle” will continue to be utilized at various times and places in Ponoka.

Targeting people who steal vehicles or who attempt to steal from vehicles, is just one component of the ongoing crime reduction strategies in the Town of Ponoka, and across the province of Alberta.
