Red Deer region unemployment climbs in February

Red Deer’s unemployment rate jumped again last month and is the highest in the province.

The latest numbers released Friday by Statistics Canada show the local jobless rate in February climbed to 8.6 per cent – the highest since 8.0% in September – from 7.4 per cent in January.

The unemployment rate for the Red Deer region in February 2019 was 4.7 per cent.

Alberta’s jobless rate in February dropped by one-tenth of a per cent, from 7.3 in January to 7.2. The provincial unemployment rate in February 2019 was also 7.3 per cent.
