RDC Kings Basketball pick up win at conference championships

Mar 6, 2020 | 3:44 PM

After a disappointing showing on Thursday, the RDC Kings bounced back with a win over Concordia University at the 2020 Men’s Basketball Championships on Friday.

The Kings beat the Thunder by a final score of 95-76.

After the first quarter, both teams were tied at 25-25 and at half time RDC trailed by six after Concordia drilled two three’s late.

RDC was in the same position against the Keyano Huskies Thursday but took their foot off the gas to end the game. That was not the case here as the Kings came out and tied the score immediately at 48, before outscoring Concordia 27-12 in the third quarter.

The Kings would end up outscoring them 53-28 in the second half to get their first win of the tournament.

Tyronn King registered a double-double in the win with 16 points and 10 rebounds to go with five assists and two steals. Spencer Klassen led the team in scoring with 24 points and nine boards in 31 minutes.

RDC didn’t commit as many turnovers as last game, only serving up three but was unable to address their shooting woes, shooting 38 percent from the floor for the second straight game.

The Kings will play Saturday versus the winner between Lethbridge College and the University of Alberta-Augustana for fifth place. Tip-off goes at 1 p.m.
