In 2018, Red Deer’s Gavin Heintz was named Century 21’s best-selling realtor in Canada.

He followed up the next year by doing one better – becoming Century 21’s number one producer in the world by units in 2019.

“It’s a tremendous achievement, I was the number one agent for Century-21 in the world,” exclaims Heintz. “It’s 139,000 agents in total that we managed to work with there. The award was awesome, they gave it to us in Los Angeles at the Century 21 global conference.”

Heintz received the award at this year’s ONE21 Experience on Feb. 23 – an annual event put on by Century 21 to celebrate its agents from around the world. Heintz notes that only two other Canadians have won the award before.

“I really think the key to success for me is really drive, ambition and organization,” explains Heintz. “I have a very supportive family and co-workers here at Century 21, so they really assist me in achieving that goal for sure. I didn’t set out to do it, but it’s just been something that’s evolved over the years and we’ve just seen more and more units stack up here in recent years.”

Heintz joined Century 21 Advantage in Red Deer 17 years ago, almost right out of high school. Soon afterwards, the now 36-year-old, realized he had established a solid career for himself.

“I really enjoy working with people and I haven’t regretted it one day since,” he proclaims.

Heintz acknowledges that his reach however, extends far beyond Red Deer’s boundaries.

“I do work throughout western Canada, so I do draw from a larger area than most,” he adds humbly. “But the majority of our sales do happen within the central Alberta market. That’s just a tribute I think to our clients having their homes prepared and to our cooperating realtors here as well.”

In 2019, Heintz sold more than any other realtor for Century 21, finding someone their new home 263 times.

He admits that one of the best things he’s learned over the years happened at last month’s conference in L.A.

“One of the speakers mentioned living for tomorrow, and not today,” says Heintz. “What I took from that is if you keep working, keep driving, keep having faith in what you’re doing and the process, that you will achieve your goal. Don’t give up.”

Looking back over his 17 years of experience, Heintz points to a significant change in marketing with the introduction of social media.

“We would do a lot more open houses to meet the general public to bring them into the fold,” he recalls. “Whereas now, everything is driven by social media and online presence, and I do believe that is the future, is marketing and sales online connecting with the consumer via text messages. Online is so important if you can create that relationship with them there for sure.”

Looking ahead, Heintz feels there are “signs of life” in the local market for 2020.

“We’ve certainly been busier throughout our office here as more buyers have been coming in and out,” he suggests. “But I do believe we still will have a surplus of inventory and it will be a buyer’s market.”
