Lee to represent Red Deer at FCM in 2020

Mar 3, 2020 | 10:47 AM

Councillor Lawrence Lee will once again represent The City of Red Deer at 2020 meetings of the Federation of Canadian Municipalities (FCM).

Council endorsed his attendance at its regular meeting on Monday, making it the fourth year Lee will have served as council’s representative at FCM.

Lee says one of his main advocacy points to FCM is for better handling by Canada’s justice system of repeat property crime offenders.

He also noted things like transit, housing and the gas tax continue to be top advocacy issues for The City of Red Deer.

A growing discussion among FCM delegates is around issues pertaining specifically to the economy in western Canada.

“That’s a new thing that the Alberta caucus has advanced and will certainly be putting a lot of our time and discussion into,” Lee said.

Lee currently sits on the FCM conference planning, intergovernmental relations and finance and audit committees and is seeking a spot on the board of directors.

The budget allocation for Lee to attend FCM meetings over the next year is $13,000, which covers five meetings, including the AGM.

Other councillors may also attend, but on their own dime.
