Vipers force game 7 versus Wranglers

The Red Deer Vipers have come all the way back to force a seventh and deciding game in their second round Heritage Junior Hockey League playoff series versus the Sylvan Lake Wranglers.

The Vipers edged the Wranglers 4-3 Sunday night in Sylvan Lake to even the series at three games apiece after the Wranglers had jumped out to a 3-0 series lead.

Jace Paarup opened the scoring for Red Deer at 7:10 of the first period Sunday when he put home a pass from Austin Gallant.

Then with 4:15 remaining in the first period, the Vipers made it 2-0 on a goal by Rylan Burns.

5:33 into the second period, the Vipers added to their lead when Gallant scored from a sharp angle to make it 3-0 for Red Deer.

Sylvan Lake finally got on the board when Wade Lightburn scored 9:29 into the second to make it 3-1.

The Wranglers made it 3-2 at the start of the third period when Brandon Westin found the back of the net.

Tanner Scott added a power-play goal for the Vipers that would serve as the game winning goal to make it 4-2 for Red Deer. Sylvan Lake would add another goal but came up short on the night.

The winner takes all game seven goes Monday night in Red Deer at the Servus Arena at 7:30.
