Olds Grizzlys open AJHL playoffs with win over Drumheller

The Olds Grizzlys opened up their first round AJHL playoff series with the Drumheller Dragons with a 4-1 win on Sunday to take an early 1-0 lead in the series.

The Grizzlys opened up the scoring 8:17 into the first when Payton MacDonald-Corea scored from Logan Bromhead.

Drumheller tied it with three seconds left in the period when Brady Risk scored a powerplay goal from Kent Anderson and Eric Martin after Olds MacDonald-Corea was called for holding.

From that point on Grizzlys goalie Ty Marcinkowski shut the door on his way to stopping 43 of 44 shots in the game.

The Grizzlies added to their lead 6:27 into the second period, when Hoon Kim made it 2-1

Olds added a powerplay goal from Noah Hackett at 11:26 then an empty net goal to seal the game one victory 4-1 on the road.

Game two goes Monday night at the Drumheller Memorial Arena at 7 p.m..
