RDC volleyball squads to play for provincial titles

Feb 29, 2020 | 11:25 AM

The RDC Kings will battle the host Lethbridge Kodiaks in the gold medal game at the 2020 ACAC Men’s Volleyball Championship.

The Kings swept their way into the final with straight sets win (25-20, 25-13, 25-19) over Briercrest in the semifinals on Friday.

“Our maturity showed through tonight,” said Kings head coach Aaron Schulha. “We were really good from the service line and got some timely blocks and digs at the end of the first set, which allowed us to build momentum and we kind of carried that all the way through.”

Lethbridge swept SAIT in the other semifinals match.

Lethbridge and Red Deer split four regular season matches.

The gold medal match goes at 5:30 p.m. Regardless of who wins both teams have earned berths at CCAA nationals in Fredericton, NB.

The RDC Queens will also be playing for gold at the ACAC Women’s Volleyball Championship in Medicine Hat.

The Queens swept Augustana in the semifinals (25-22, 25-21, 25-22) to set up a final duel with Briercrest, the only team to finish ahead of them in the regular season.

Briercrest took care of The King’s University in the semis (25-23,25-18, 25-19).

Saturday’s battle for the provincial title goes at 6 p.m.
