RDC’s Vincent and Plett named to All-Conference Curling team

Feb 28, 2020 | 9:10 PM

Hollie Vincent and Emily Plett have been selected to the 2019-20 Alberta Colleges Athletic Conference (ACAC) Women’s Curling All-Conference team. Both members of Queens Curling played pivotal roles in leading their team to a spot in the playoffs.

After a 3-3 record at the Fall Regional, Vincent and Plett played outstanding at the Winter Regional, helping to guide the Queens to a magnificent 5-1 standing. The Red Deer College Queens (8-4) finished tied with the University of Alberta Augustana Vikings (8-4) and NAIT Ooks (8-4) for first place in the women’s division. All three teams qualified for the ACAC Championships presented by Holiday Inn. The Concordia University Thunder (6-6) sealed fourth.

Even though Red Deer County’s Vincent has changed positions this season, RDC Curling Head Coach Brad Hamilton feels the second-year Bachelor of Science Nursing student has adapted very well.

“Hollie moved from third to skip and has made a smooth transition,” explains Hamilton. “She has made numerous clutch shots and has done an excellent job managing the strategy this year.”

Plett, who plays third, has been a remarkable recruit for the 2019-20 Queens, making a positive impact in her inaugural season.

“We are very excited to have Emily join us this year and she has fit in extremely well,” states Hamilton. “In only her first year, she has adjusted very quickly to curling in the ACAC.”

First-year Bachelor of Education Elementary student Plett hails from Landmark, Manitoba.

The Queens have steadily developed their game throughout the season, and the head coach likes the cohesion and upward trend of the team’s performance as the playoffs begin.

“The team really gelled at the Winter Regional and has a lot of momentum heading into championships,” says Hamilton.

The ACAC Curling Championships are taking place from Feb. 28 to Mar. 1. RDC is hosting the event at the Pidherney Curling Centre.
