The Red Deer Rustlers are one win away from the NCSHL Vanberg Cup finals as they lead the top-seeded Morinville Kings in their best-of-five series second round playoff series 2-1.

The Rustlers and the Kings met for the first game February 15 at the Morinville Leisure Center. With goals from Colby Schancher, Jaret Smith and Tyler Berkholtz, the Rusters took game one 3-1.

Game two was the next night at the Penhold Multiplex. Red Deer was able to take a 2-0 lead in the series after scoring three powerplay goals in the first period and goalie Mike Salmon made 24 saves in a 6-5 win.

The Rustlers were unable to close out the series Saturday night when Mornville, with their backs against the wall, won 4-1. Tom Brennan, Blake Grainger, Kyle Harris and Jordan Pelletier all scored for Morrnville and Dylan Houston had the only tally for Red Deer. Mornville scored three power-play goals on nine opportunities, icing the game three wins.
