Drugs and stolen merchandise seized in Innisfail traffic stop

Feb 21, 2020 | 1:38 PM

A suspicious vehicle complaint in Innisfail Friday morning has led to the seizure of drugs and stolen merchandise.

On Feb. 21 at approximately 12:10 a.m., Innisfail RCMP responded to a complaint of a black Mazda 6 that appeared to be prowling around Hooker’s Towing. Members located the vehicle in the McDonald’s drive thru and conducted a traffic stop.

A 27-year-old female and 34-year-old male, both from Calgary, were arrested.

Through investigation, police say the license plate on the vehicle was confirmed as stolen, with members locating methamphetamine and newly stolen catalytic converters inside the vehicle.

RCMP say the suspects are jointly charged with three counts each of possession of property obtained by crime, while the female suspect is also charged with possession of methamphetamine and other provincial offenses.

The suspect’s identities however, are not being released at this time as charges have not yet been sworn. Both have been released on Appearance Notices to appear in Red Deer Provincial Court on Apr. 3.

Innisfail RCMP say property crime and crime reduction remains a top priority, and they encourage residents to continue reporting all suspicious activity.
