A sudden change in leadership has taken place at Red Deer Catholic Regional Schools (RDCRS).

On Thursday, District officials issued the following statement:

“The Red Deer Catholic Regional Schools Board of Trustees passed a motion on Tuesday, February 18, 2020, concluding the employment of Superintendent Dr. Paul Mason, effective immediately,” the statement reads.

“Associate Superintendent Kathleen Finnigan has been appointed as Interim Superintendent. Red Deer Catholic Regional Schools thanks Dr. Mason for his years of service.”

“As this is an internal employment matter,” the statement continues, “the Red Deer Catholic Regional Schools Board has no further comment.”

Mason had been Superintendent for Red Deer Catholic Regional Schools since taking the job in September 2011. At the time, he’d spent seven years previous as a teacher, and around 14 more as an administrator.

He was also the associate superintendent for human resources at RDCRS for four and a half years prior to taking on the top job.

His teaching career began in 1991 in Valleyview.
