Dinner and fundraiser to support Somali children

Feb 17, 2020 | 8:00 AM

The fourth annual ‘Join Hands for Building a Future for Somali Children’ dinner and fundraiser is coming up on Feb. 29.

The special event goes from 6-9 p.m. at Festival Hall in Red Deer.

Delicious ethnic food will be served buffet style, and the night will be punctuated by international entertainment, henna tattoos, a silent auction and door prizes.

Keynote speaker for the evening will be Zainab Mohamoud who started fundraising for this cause in 2016.

A Somalian immigrant who came to Canada in 2007, Mohamoud spent parts of her childhood living amongst civil war in her home region.

An RDC alum, she is also the author of ‘To Somali Girls and Boys With Love’ which was published in 2019, and is a past nominee (2016) for the Red Deer Women of Excellence awards.

Money raised from the gala have previously helped build an elementary school, and funds this year will support the construction of a new permanent shelter in the country’s Sool region.

Tickets are available on Eventbrite.
