COURT

Psychiatric assessment coming for serial sexual predator

Feb 13, 2020 | 10:32 AM

A report is being prepared to determine whether an Eckville man who admitted to committing sexual crimes against young children can be classified as a dangerous or long-term offender.

The 35-year-old man pleaded guilty in October to more than two dozen of the 80 counts against him. His name is subject to a court-ordered publication ban.

In December, Judge Jim Hunter ordered a psychological assessment at the request of Carolyn Ayre, a specialized prosecutor from Calgary, to determine whether the man meets the criteria to be declared a dangerous or long-term offender.

Court heard that over the course of about a decade the Eckville man collected hundreds of photos and videos of himself sexually assaulting or molesting children between the ages of two and 10 years old. Some of the images were uploaded to child pornography sites.
