Car wash owners fined $40,000 for 2017 explosion

The owners of a car wash in north Red Deer that was the scene of an explosion that injured three people have been fined $40,000.

Heebo Jo and Myung Kun Song, owners of Lazer Car Wash on 67A Street, pleaded guilty under the Occupational Health and Safety Act for failing to develop procedures for the safe storage, use and handling of flammable materials.

The explosion that occurred on August 8, 2017 injured Song, an employee and another man who was seeking a job at the car wash.

The car wash owners also pleaded guilty in May 2018 to three charges laid by the City of Red Deer under the Safety Codes Act and were fined $30,000.
