Canadian Energy Centre apologizes for tweets

CALGARY- The head of Alberta’s $30-million-a-year energy war room is apologizing for posts on Twitter that questioned The New York Times’ credibility.

The Canadian Energy Centre posted a 20-tweet thread in response to a Times article on international lenders that have stopped financing oil sands projects in Alberta.

Four of those tweets — now deleted — said The Times has been called out for anti-Semitism, has a dodgy track record and is routinely accused of bias.

The remaining tweets defend the environmental record of Canada and the oil and gas sector and did not directly attack the newspaper’s credibility.

The Canadian Energy Centre was created by Premier Kenney to promote the energy industry and fire back against what the United Conservative government deems to be misinformation.
