Red Deer’s Sandstrom up for AJHL’s top defenceman award

Red Deer native Adam Sandstrom of the Whitecourt Wolverines is the Alberta Junior Hockey League’s Defenceman of the Week.

Sandstrom, who led all AJHL defencemen in scoring last week, has also been named as a finalist for the AJHL’s Outstanding Defenceman Award for the 2019-20 season.

The three-year AJHL vet and team captain picked up f points (1G, 4A) when the Wolverines traveled south for four games last week. The 20 year-old defenceman recorded an assist in two mid-week games versus the Camrose Kodiaks and Olds Grizzlys. He followed up with two assists in Friday night’s victory over the Calgary Canucks and a goal in a 4-3 loss to the Brooks Bandits on Saturday. S

The 20-year-old is on a six-game point streak, totaling seven points, and is sixth in scoring among AJHL defencemen this season with 33 points (9G, 24A).
