Wetaskiwin RCMP make arrests in two recent deaths

WETASKIWIN- The RCMP Major Crimes Unit has confirmed that 27-year-old Ryan Jake Applegarth, who was wanted for first degree murder, was arrested on Wednesday.

On January 3, RCMP responded to a complaint of a deceased 34-year-old man at a residence in Wetaskiwin.

Applegarth remains in custody and is remanded to appear in court on Feb. 11.

Following the suspicious death of a 26-year-old man, 24-year-old Presley Dean Saddleback of Wetaskiwin has been arrested and charged with manslaughter.

The victim was known to Saddleback and the incident is believed to be isolated.

On February 1, RCMP responded to a residence for a complaint of a man not breathing. EMS attended and declared the 26-year-old Wetaskiwin man deceased.

The investigation revealed that the victim was involved in a previous altercation outside of the residence.

Saddleback has been remanded in custody and is scheduled to appear in court on Feb. 20.
