Preparing For The Future

Career and Technology Studies, fine arts showcased at Exploration Day

It was a possible glimpse into the future on Thursday for Grade 9 students who will be attending École Secondaire Notre Dame High School and St. Joseph High School this fall.

Students were able to participate in an Exploration Day based on their interests, and were able to take part in hands-on activities in the CTS (Career and Technology Studies) and fine arts classes of their choice.

Officials with Red Deer Catholic Regional Schools says these courses included fabrication, foods, cosmetology, electrical, photography, theatre and much more.

“Participation in Exploration Day gives our Grade 9 students a valuable opportunity to get an in-depth look at the various course offerings available in our high schools prior to making course selections,” says Off-Campus Program Lead Teacher, Tracey Millar. “Our high schools offer exceptional programming aimed at helping our students develop their skills and identify their strengths.”

“Our division strives to cultivate awareness of diverse career paths as we help our students prepare for their futures,” continues Millar. “Many of our high school courses involve community partnership, work placements and post-secondary dual credit offerings.”

“As a CTS teacher, having students taking part in a day like this helps them better understand the programs we offer at our school and helps them make informed course selections that meet either their interests or career goals,” adds Jeff Lerouge, teacher at École Secondaire Notre Dame High School.
