First Friday Red Deer presents County Pride Dance Club

RED DEER- The Red Deer Arts Council is pleased to present a special performance by Country Pride Dance Club at the next First Friday Red Deer event taking place on February 7 from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m.

The presentation coincides with our continuing exhibition entitled, Shadow Man: Works by Paul Boultbee, which runs until February 16 in the Kiwanis Gallery at the Red Deer Public Library, 4818 49 Street.

The Country Pride Dance Club has been promoting dance since 1991 and has over 60 members, with around 25 performance team members. In 2019, they performed in the opening ceremonies of the Canada Winter Games, danced at CFR 46, and Alberta Culture Days. They also perform at special events, teach dance lessons to the public, & co-host Friday Family Dances in Red Deer at Festival Hall. The dance team unique in Canada, come and enjoy the show.

This show will visually articulate the artists’ concept and journey in creating a room at the famous Icehotel in Jukkasjarvi, Sweden this past November and December of 2019. Their hotel room, Feline Lair, was among 14 other decoratively themed rooms which were chosen by jury and then created by artists from 16 different countries. Each group had 16 days to complete their concept. They worked with snow, and ice from the Thorne River to create their magical settings. Hours: Mon–Fri 8 a.m. – 4:30 p.m.

Opening Reception: Friday, February 7 from 6 – 8 p.m. The content is primarily oil pastel drawings of simple landscapes that use trees as the main object in the image. The works were made between 1994 and 1996. Live music with Tyler Allen and Dayna Moritz to follow at 9 p.m.

Artists/Instructors Michael Huyzer, Rita Schoenberger, Amanda Frost, Meghan Harkins have shared their ideas and knowledge with workshop students. From oil painting, acrylic and alcohol inks, to mixed media, each person came up with inspiring pieces. We wanted to show case each of our students in celebrating their masterpieces with you. You’ve seen the photos on Facebook, now come in and talk with our students. You may be inspired to try out an art workshop for yourself .
