Lacombe County, Summer Village of Gull lake finalize collaboration agreement

Jan 19, 2020 | 6:44 PM

Lacombe County and the Summer Village of Gull Lake have signed a new Intermunicipal Collaboration Framework.

The agreement specifies what and how certain services are funded and delivered, and how the two municipalities can work together the most efficiently.

“Lacombe County has long been a believer in the importance of having excellent working relationships with our neighbours, including the Summer Village of Gull Lake,” said Reeve Paula Law. “The signing of these ICF agreements paves a path forward for continued collaboration and communication between our communities.”

The ICF contains the following key points, according to a joint media release:

Access will be provided to municipal facilities and programs for residents of each community equally, and a joint approach will be taken to capital planning. As well, the two will commit to shared investment for capital planning.

Each municipality will also have input into policy and service level decisions.

“Lacombe County has and continues to be a very good partner. We look forward to working together in the best interest of our constituents,” said Linda D’Angelo, Mayor of the Summer Village of Gull Lake.

The accord is a new legislated requirement under the Municipal Government Act for those municipalities which share a common boundary. The requirement was introduced in 2016, and the deadline to finalize them is March 31, 2020.
