Lacombe Performing Arts Centre gets boost from county funding

Life is good for the Lacombe Performing Arts Centre Foundation, which is anticipating the start of its second season.

The foundation recently received $83,000 from Lacombe County to put towards its new facility, which is a renovated church they purchased. That’s on top of $141,000 received from the City of Lacombe, which equates to 25 per cent of the project’s cost.

“It’s wonderful to see participation from the County and the City,” says Grant Harder, foundation president. “We have so many users coming to our facility from the surrounding municipalities like Bentley and Clive, Blackfalds even. It’s great to have the County recognize that people from the county actually use the facility.”

The new facility at 5227 C&E Trail, which is the former Trinity Lutheran Church, comfortably seats 155 spectators. There’s a renovated stage complete with draperies and lighting, as well as a new sound system.

“It is a very comfortable and intimate theatre setting, and the acoustics are wonderful,” Harder notes.

The centre has had dance groups, art classes and drama troupes utilize the building, with a slate of shows and performances scheduled for the upcoming season.

“We’ve known for a long time that there’s really strong support for the arts in the Lacombe community,” Harder adds. “We’ve been working to get a live performance venue in Lacombe that isn’t the Memorial Centre or a church and finally we have realized that.”
