Battle of the Rockies future still up in the air

Jan 8, 2020 | 2:35 PM

It was in August of last year when a letter was released by the Rocky Mountain Chuckwagon Association (RMCA) claiming that the 10th annual Battle of the Rockies in 2019 would be the last.

The RMCA this month is currently in the midst of their annual meeting and elections.

When asked whether World Professional Chuckwagon Association (WPCA) event would be coming back to Rocky in 2020, they responded, “As of this moment the status of the Battle of the Rockies has not yet been determined. There are still multiple questions we would like answered before making our decision.”

The statement coincides with remarks made at a special town hall meeting held at the Christenson Sports and Wellness Centre in September of last year, when RMCA representative Garry Berthiaume stated, “The rules and regulations on how we deal with the contracts with RASA and the Town are not perfectly clear… we can’t go and sign a three or five year contract with WPCA without some kind of assurance going down the road.”
