Fatal collision east of Coaldale claims one life

COALDALE – A two vehicle collision east of Coaldale about 8:00 p.m. on Monday (Jan 6) night, claimed one life and sent another person to hospital.

Coaldale Fire and RCMP were dispatched to the collision, involving a truck and a van, at the junction of Highway-3 and Highway-512 near the McCain’s plant at Chin.

RCMP say an 18 year old woman ran into the back of a one-ton truck as it was merging onto Highway 3.

She died at the scene.

Her name is not being made public.

The 56-year-old female driver of the truck was taken to hospital with non-life threatening injuries, while a 55 year old male passenger in the truck was not injured.

Coaldale RCMP, along with an RCMP Collision Analyst continue to investigate.

Traffic on the eastbound lanes of Highway-3 was re-opened around 2:20 a.m. Tuesday morning.
