Red Deer’s Danielson to play for Canada at Winter Youth Olympic Games

Team Canada is set for the 2020 Winter Youth Olympic Games, Jan. 9-22 in Lausanne, Switzerland.

Among those named to the squad is Red Deer native Nate Danielson.

The 15-year-old forward is currently playing for the Northern Alberta Xtreme in the Canadian Sport School Hockey League and has piled up 32 points in 15 games this season.

Last year he amassed 85 points in 65 games last season with the Red Deer Bantam AAA Rebels on his way to winning league MVP honours.

He was drafted fifth overall in the first round by the Brandon Wheat Kings in the 2019 WHL Bantam Draft.

Canada, which won silver at the 2016 Youth Olympics, will face Russia (Jan. 18) and Denmark (Jan. 19) in Group B play during the preliminary round, with the semifinals set for Jan. 21 and the bronze and gold medal games on Jan. 22.

Red Deer Rebels Assistant GM Shaun Sutter was part of the selection team for the Canadian squad.
