Lacoka hockey players to face alumni this weekend

Alumni and current players of the Lacoka Midget hockey program will once again face off this weekend.

The alumni tournament was launched last year as a way to show young female athletes that women’s hockey can take them places.

“Not only do these kinds of events encourage youth to take an interest in local sports, but it also gives us all an opportunity to see where hockey has taken the girls from the past teams,” says Torrie Craig, an alum and current midget team coach.

“Many are playing at university level hockey, two of the girls became coaches for the current players.”

Admission is free with the puck dropping at 3:30 p.m. on Saturday, Dec. 21 at the Ponoka Culture and Rec Complex.
