Farm to table feature possibly to be filmed in Red Deer

A new filmed-in-Red Deer television program could be coming to the small screen in the near future.

Shawn Moore with Red Deer’s Eco Tree Ltd. is working with local students and teachers, as well as HGTV personality Damon Bennett to potentially produce a show.

“It’s about building a farm to table community, but more so working with youth in the community to do that,” says Moore, who’s collaborated previously with the wood shop class at Central Middle School.

“After four years developing the idea, we finally took a leap of faith. We’ve got Damon here to look at the project, and we’ve been meeting with a ton of the local kids here.”

Bennett, known for his work on various shows starring Mike Holmes, most often as a site or construction supervisor, says it’s time to get back to basics.

“I want to continue helping people, including youth, with learning and experiences,” he says. “Farm to table (is something) we’ve come so far away from, so that’s where we buy our food and where it actually comes from. That concept is something I’m very interested in.”

It’s a little early, he adds, to say what’s happening with the project for sure, but updates can be found on social media over the coming months.
