Crash near Drayton Valley claims life of B.C. man

Dec 16, 2019 | 1:48 PM

One man is dead following a crash between two semi-tractors and a truck, just north of Drayton Valley last week.

On Dec. 12, at approximately 12:30 p.m., Drayton Valley RCMP attended the scene on Highway 22 south of Township Road 494.

Mounties say road conditions at the time of this collision were poor due to snowfall and ice.

According to police, the preliminary investigation has revealed that a semi-tractor was travelling northbound when it lost control and collided with a southbound semi-tractor. The truck following the northbound semi-tractor was then damaged by debris.

The 31-year-old driver of the southbound semi-tractor from Abbotsford, B.C., was pronounced dead on scene.

The 29-year-old male driver of the northbound semi-tractor from Surrey, B.C., was taken to hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

The 56-year-old male driver of the truck from Drayton Valley had minor injuries that were treated at the scene.

Drayton Valley RCMP, along with an RCMP Collision Analyst, attended the scene and the investigation continues.

The area of the collision remained restricted to traffic until approximately 9:00 p.m., when the highway was reopened.

Mounties say no further updates are anticipated.
