win-streak over

Rebels stumped by Regina for second time in a week

Dec 7, 2019 | 9:13 PM

The Red Deer Rebels (10-16-0-3) can take solace that they were both one-goal games, but for the second time in a week, they were defeated in regulation by their conference rival, the Regina Pats (7-17-3-0).

Red Deer lost 4-3 at home on Nov. 30, and then 3-2 on Saturday at Brandt Centre. The loss snaps the Rebels’ three-game winning streak, which was preceded by the first loss to Regina.

Red Deer drew first blood on Saturday, Josh Tarzwell scoring his 12th just past the four-minute mark.

At 14:41, former Red Deer Rebel Austin Pratt equalized for the Pats with his 11th.

Under a minute into the second period, Drew Englot (3rd) put the home team ahead. Brett Davis tied it at two goals apiece just 1:28 later, however.

But with less than seven minutes remaining in the middle frame, Ty Kolle put away his 11th (PP) and the Pats never looked back.

The third period scoresheet was blank, save for a Brett Davis hooking minor in the opening minute.

Byron Fancy (5-6-0-1) stopped 21 of 24 shots faced, while Max Paddock (5-10-3-0) turned away 26 of 28.

The Rebels were also stymied on the man advantage going 0-for-3. They did outshoot Regina 28-24, including 14-7 in the third period.

Next up for Red Deer (10-16-0-3) is the third and final game of their road swing through Saskatchewan and southern Alberta. They take on the Lethbridge Hurricanes (18-9-0-5) on Wednesday (Dec. 11) with puck drop at 7 p.m. on 106.7 The Drive.
